MOVIE FILM CONVERSION
Not all movie film conversion companies were born equal. Many local and internet companies that offer “high-quality” conversions actually do very poor work. It might surprise you to know that most local companies subcontract out their transfer work. At Retromedia, all work is performed in-house so all costs go directly towards producing a better finished product.
All films are properly prepared before projection. This preparation is critical prior to transfer. We first replace all leaders and weak splices, examine sprocket perforations, and then the film is cleaned. This process reduces dirt, dust, image jump and projector artifacts.
REGULAR 8mm, SUPER 8mm (Silent or Sound), 16mm (Optical or Magnetic Sound)
All movie films are transferred from specialized projectors directly to high-resolution digital video files. Then, footage is transcoded ( converted) to the client’s chosen final format (DVD, Data Disk, or client-supplied Hard Drive). We hold the original digital files in archive for 1 year after delivery.
Minimum Charge is $45.00
All movie film transfers have a $25 per hour setup fee. (This fee is to cover the cost of film cleaning, splice renewal, sprocket repair, leader additions, camera alignment, etc.). Typical jobs will only require one hour to accomplish this. In addition to the to the setup fee, pricing is as follows:
|16mm Silent Film||$.33 p/f|
|16mm Optical or Magnetic Sound||$.35 p/f|
|8mm Silent Film||$.31 p/f|
|Super 8 Silent Film||$.31 p/f|
|Super 8 Sound Film||$.68 p/f|
If the required final format is DVD, there will be a $15 charge for the first Printed DVD and Slim Case.
